Let's give this another try! My name is Kody, I'm from eastern Washington and I am a wedding & senior photographer. I started my first 365 back in 2012 and have yet to complete it past 3 or 4 months after having started a new one every new years since. So here goes nothing! I'm always get excited to start, but things come up, and this year that's not going to affect it!
How to: Set the tripod up at a distance where I could make sure we would have room to sit above the numbers. Took exposures till I found one I liked and then my friend and we started painting the numbers with the flash light (not pointing at the camera, too bright) using the pvc pipe as a guide where to start the top of each number and each number to it's own exposure. Once we had the the numbers, we had to estimate the exact spot for the ladder, but due to the cold, we just set it up and hoped for the best. Once the ladder was set up, we would hold it for each other till we were in position due to wobble and ice then the other person would run to the camera, click the shutter, and then quickly paint the person on the ladder with the flash light. After we got the ones we wanted we wrapped up got in the car and blasted the heat haha. In photoshop, I opened the 2 then placed the 0 underneath it, created a layer mask on the 2 and slowly erased the 0 through. After I had what I wanted from the 0, I'd flatten the image, then continue to open the following numbers and photos of us as I did the the 0 and just get it till I decided it was good enough! Over all pretty simple.
Things to improve: Put markers on the ground where each number will go and where the ladder will go. It will save you so much time shooting and processing.
Well that's my first shot of 2015, so here's to many more!
Good luck! This year is my fourth attempt as well... hoping we can pull through this time :D Just keep reminding myself... it doesn't have to be great, just post *something*! How hard can that possibly be? I keep asking myself.
@polarvrtx Ha, yes, just post something. I'm almost done with 2nd year and my year two rules were post something taken within the week or month because I go on shoots that can yield about 50 shots. So I spend more time in processing than finding a new subject every day. :) Good luck to you both!!
So here's to 2015!
