My 8 yr old ancient computer may be dying soon and I'm worried that I might lose my photos. I have an external drive (where I try to back up....when I remember) but what if that too breaks down. :(
Do you all upload your photos on a website, ie. flicker? Is that safe?
Also, which pc works best for us photo geeks? My pc went on "turtle" mode after I installed photoshop. It's running much better (thanks to my bros help).
I'm trying to be proactive..........before disaster happens. :(
i put all mine to disc , i also put loads on fb & photobucket but mainly they are all on discs , that said i have LOADS i need to put to disc at the mo !
Having lost photos before, I now have a 1TB external hardrive, and another one that it backs up to. I dont save anything on my computers hard drive! You need a lot of RAM to run programs like PS, especially if you also shoot in raw.....I've got 4gb ram on my pc now...
Hope that helps....
@looseimages Thanks! That sure helps. I have an external hard drive too. Maybe I'll stay with that. Also, I need to change my specs requirement on my next pc. :p
@flamez Is there a limit in photobucket? I tried the discs before but they got corrupted. :(
Any file that's only on one drive is guaranteed to be tragically lost (been there, done that). Now I have automatic backups on to a network attached drive, using the built-in Time Machine software on a Mac to a Time Capsule. Took two seconds to set up, and instant peace of mind.
Hope that helps....

@asrai my brother uses flicker and he likes it too.
On smugmug you can pay for storage of raw and tiff files. I've never done since I have the external harddrive, but it's an option for people.
