Transferring a subject into a different photo

July 16th, 2011
Hi everyone,
I am pretty new at playing with photo effects, so I would appreciate any help; how can I transfer an image from one picture (a child, for example) into a different photo? I have used the "clone" and some layering tools in Picnik, but as far as I can tell there is no way to get just the image, not the background with it. No matter how close I crop there is always a little bit of stuff I don't want.

I use Picnik for almost everything; I just downloaded Gimp yesterday, but so far it's kind of over my head. One of these days I'll sit down and try to figure it out, but for now if anyone could break it down step-by-step for me (using either program) I'd be your friend for life :)

Thanks a bunch!
Carissa

I am sending attention of this post to @janmaki, he is a Gimp and Picnik master. He should be able to help.

In Photoshop, you can simply drag one photo into the other (if they are in two separate windows) and it creates a separate layer. Maybe Picnik can do the same?
