Does anyone know a good zoom lense for the 500D?
I have a 18-55mm lense but that lense has a rather small zoom.
I'm looking to buy a zoom lense with which you can zoom quite far.
Any tips?
I was just talking to someone at the camera shop the other day about this. He suggested 55-250IS. I've borrowed a friends 75-300 and I like it, but images aren't as crisp as I'd like them. That very well could be me and not the lens!
I've got the 55-250 IS which I really like, though the extra reach on the 75-300 is helpful. I did find that the 300 takes a long time to focus and is quite noisy (as in sound, not picture quality!), whereas the 250 is quicker and less noisy, but maybe that's just me.
I have both the 70-300 (non IS) and the 55-250 IS. I definitely like the 55-250 IS better. In fact, I was just shooting a picture of a bird that was in my back yard with the 70-300 and the pictures looked slightly blurry so I ran back inside and switched to my 55-250 and I was much happier with the photos.
I was fully zoomed for both the lenses and I must say that I don't notice a huge difference between 300mm and 250mm. Besides, the 55-250 is sharp enough that I can crop it more than enough to make me happy.
