i've just purchased photoshop cs3, and it doesn't seem to undo anything i have done to the photo. i've used the piantbrush and when i do "ctrl z" nothing happens. can anyone help please.
Go to the tabs at the top of your page, under window go to your history tab, it will show each step you are doing, just right click on that particular step and delete. History panel is a very valuable tool to have open all the time... have fun and there are some great photoshop tutorials on line, especially psdtuts
@lsinclairphotos Photoshop only goes one step back when you hit Ctrl Z. Repeatedly hitting it will go back and forth between the change you made and changing it back. Say, you drew a red square on a photo, then a blue circle. You want them both gone and decide to use Ctrl Z. Hitting it once takes away the blue circle. If you try hitting it again, you won't take away the red square, you'll put the blue circle back. Either that or nothing will happen.
However, if you hold down Ctrl-Alt, and then Z, you can go back as many times as you would like, taking out the blue circle, the red square, and whatever else you've done! I know that this worked in CS4, 5, and now 5.5. I'm guessing it would work in 3 too.
Many users believe that unless they use the History palette in PhotoShop then only one undo is available (Control + Z)
UH huh – not the case!!!!
To do a multiple undo in PhotoShop simply press the following keys
(PC) Control + Alt + Z
(MAC) Command + Alt + Z
The amount of undo’s available is the amount of states stored in the ‘History’ palette, this can be changed in the ‘General’ preferences (Edit menu> Preferences> General> History States)
That's because you have to use control alt Z or use the history box to undo steps. The history box is located in the menu windows. When you use the history option, you can go back several more steps than using the shortcut.
However, if you hold down Ctrl-Alt, and then Z, you can go back as many times as you would like, taking out the blue circle, the red square, and whatever else you've done! I know that this worked in CS4, 5, and now 5.5. I'm guessing it would work in 3 too.
Good luck!
It's CMD-OPT-Z on a Mac, so I'm guessing that would be CTRL-ALT-Z on a PC?
