I use photoshop CS5 and i'm having a problem blending when i only select a certain area to make even subtle changes. besides blurring it what are the other options? it's giving me such a headache lol.
First, use layer masks. Once you apply a mask to a layer, nothing happens at first. Select the paint brush tool, set it to black color, and then set it to about 20% opacity and 20% flow. Then start painting over the areas you want to mask and it will gently, smoothly blend the two layers together.
hey, so that's what it means to use a black brush (or white brush)? you actually change the color of it from the color palette? i have never figured that out. @jasonbarnette
@laceyjogautreau Yep. When you use a layer mask, it is white by default. White is "opaque" as far as the mask is concerned. However, when you paint over it with black it starts to hide it.
I hope you were actually serious and not just totally sarcastic! haha
@jasonbarnette No, that was really, really helpful, and i thank you. every tutorial i have read says to use a black or white brush, but never said how to make the brush white or black. thanks, for real.

"D" resets the color palette to black foreground/white background.
"X" switches the current colors in the palette.
A lot of tutorials take for granted how much you already know about Photoshop. I learned the hard way, just like you.
