Help! Editing Suggestions please

November 23rd, 2011
I cut the girl from a separate photo and pasted her into the one with the cup.
I just can seem to get it looking right. Just looks like a cheesy Photoshop job. :(
I'm using Photoshop Elements for editing.
Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Here is the complete shot:

And a close up crop:

try putting putting her bottom on the rim of the cup .. she just looks like she is floating at the moment

photoshop = cheese no matter how much gravy you apply.

But I do like the close up better then the distance shot, and yeah it looks like her bum is floating in the air. She needs a different pose.

@renelou would be cool to see some of the petals looking like they are pushed down on either side of the cup to look like the rim is physically creasing them a bit too maybe you could clone some of the petals and switch up their perspective but I am no where near a photoshop guru

@renelou btw I see where you are going with this shot and I think its awesome looking just needs the fine tuning you are seeking

I think there are too many disparate elements to make this a coherent whole. I'm not sure what the wall of yellow flowers has to do with the angel or the cup. I think that is why the close up is better. IMHO, of course.

I don't know what's possible with Photoshop Elements, but if you can add some light shadows on the inside and outside of the cup and maybe on the yellow flowers behind her, it will look more believable.

Or you could have her sitting in the spoon, that might work better than balancing on the rim of the cup.

Cute composition! I agree her pose on the edge is a little mid-air. Could she sit on the handle instead?

@mikew I agree with Michael that it could look cool with her sitting in the spoon.
But I'm no guru either!!! Cute idea!

Thanks everyone for your input! I've never been asked to do this type of thing before.
I moved her around to different positions but was never satisfied. Next step is to try a different pose.

Renee, hope you don't mind, but I had a quick play with this.

Moved her down so her hand was on the rim of the cup. Before her hand was floating.

Added shading underneath her on the cup, and also behind her on the yellow background.

@mikew I don't mind. The hand on the rim looks so much better. I've been struggling with it and trying some of the other poses I have. How did you make the shadow?

I made the shadow in photoshop.

For the yellow background I made a copy of the girl (selected and copied into a new layer). In the copied layer filled the outline of the girl with black, then adjusted opacity. I think I set the blending mode to overlay too, can't remember.

For the cup, just painted some black on a blank layer and adjusted opacity - again maybe set the blending mode to overlay or soft light.

You could also add a curves or adjustment layer, adjust to darken, then paint the areas you want dark on the layer mask with a brush.

If you don't use photoshop you'll have to google it :)
