mosaics

Id like to create a mosaic where I chose one photo then overlay all of my other photos in a grid over it. so you see the main photo at a distance but all the little ones close up.

I have been busy researching the best way to do this.
There are some good online software and sites which can make it up for me, but the best one i found doesnt let me adjust the size of the grid, and the other one which lets me adjust, is not as good!

so i would really like to do it myself in photoshop but i don't think any of the blending modes work right and find it impossible to get the same effect as I need.
Has anyone created a mosaic themselves and discovered some hidden trick?
Any tips or good sites you can recommend?

I originally tried doing a mosaic in photoshop but it was just too much work. I ended up using a cool website that allows you to download either a lo-def (free) or hi-def (cheep) version of photo. I bought the hi-def and was pleased not only with the quality of the overall photo but being able to zoom in and see all the other photos pretty clear as well.

you can see my photo here (and even zoom in): http://www.easymoza.com/index.php?p=31&t=10&s=7764457947cc6ff71b307090b7334acb

and if you decide to use an online app, I would suggest their's: http://www.easymoza.com

I did this one when I reached 365. I used a free app called Andrea Mosaic. If you click through, there's a link to it in my caption.
