Well it's almost New Year so there should be plenty of fireworks to capture.
But what is the best way to get the shots that will stand out.
How far away or close should you be to the fireworks for the best shots ?
How long should I keep the shutter open ?
Do I use a narrow or wide aperture for best results ?
And, finally, any tips on focusing to get the sharpest photos ?
I was very happy with my fireworks shot this year from July 4th. I did a lot of the things mentioned in the article. Instead of a remote release I just used the 2 second self timer. Far or close just depends on what you like for the background. I found a location with nice elements in it and then adjusted zoom to catch the fireworks. I found the 10 seconds and a mid aperture 6.3 worked well for me. Just play and see what you like.
Fireworks at Lake Wendouree are on tomorrow in the Australia Day fireworks spectacular. I will post an image as soon as possible after I arrive home. I intend to experiment with time exposures, multiple exposures and bokeh and I will see how I get on.
this is a secret but I will share, put the camera on BULB and with a shirt or card cover the lens and the uncover the lens when the fireworks explode then cover the lens and repeat, I have not tried this but seen really cool pics taken this way, of course you will have to decide aperture depending on how long you plan to expose.
Finally got my fireworks shot after a real fight with the windy conditions that really tested out the sturdiest tripod. I was also pleasantly surprised with the number of favs I got for it. Thankyou all for that.

It rained here at New Year so I never got to take any photos :-(
