Are .gif files accepted on 365?

January 1st, 2012
I wanted to upload a .gif file of some fireworks, however when I uploaded it, it didn't seem to move, and the pictures didn't change - it was stuck on one picture.
So i'm now wondering if the site actually accepts .gif files, or did I do something wrong??

Per the FAQ:

What files can I upload?
Currently you can upload JPEG, GIF and PNG files. All files uploaded should be under 5MB in size.

Was yours above size? I'm suspecting that an animated GIF would be.

I'm not really sure if it was above size or not. This is the code for it :

which seems to make it work in blogs etc, but dont know how i would upload this to my project...

@jjefferies It seems to be working just fine on my computer... and it's pretty cool, I might add! :)

@kjarn yes, and that's what i'm confused about!

When I looked at the code it says jpg, not gif... I don't know a lot about coding, etc. but is that an issue? Maybe you should ask @scrivna if he knows... it's his site.

Whenever any image gets uploaded here, it goes through a process called "downsampling", which basically shrinks it so it takes up less space. It seems that while you can indeed upload PNGs and GIFs, as part of the downsampling they're converted to JPGs. I don't think there'll be any way around this.

@jjefferies hi Jasmine, yes, you can upload gif's but as @eyebrows says, they get converted to jpegs and any animation will not work. If you want to upload a video of the fireworks you can always add a YouTube video to your project via the Upload page.

@Scrivna @eyebrows OK, thankyou very much, I think I will have to go for the youtube option then!!
