Pine cones by dkbarnett

Pine cones

I was intrigued by this tree, which was a very old and gnarly pine tree and absolutely covered with pine cones, including down the trunk. These cones look frosted but it is the way the light was catching them through the foliage.
Lovely find and capture :)

How unusual. I have never seen this happen before - fungus yes, but not pine cones. Great textures and detail here.

Amazing Delwyn. I guess pine trees can put extra effort into send out cones if they are coming to the end of their life...just to try to increase the chances of new trees forming from the cones. I've never seen a pine tree with cones on the trunk...thanks for showing us. fav

This looks like it could be a Christmas tree - lovely silvery cones. It is a strange tree with the cones coming straight from the trunk - your photo shows it so well. :)
