Opononi sand dunes

We drove from Opua to Auckland on Sunday afternoon and decided to go the long way around via Opononi, Waipoua Forest, Dargaville and Brynderwyns. It did take MUCH longer, but was very scenic. This photo is taken from the beach at Omapere and looking across the harbour to the sand dunes.

@yorkshirekiwi So do I. I also like the sand dunes at Ahipara - it makes you feel as though you are in a different world!

@dawnee So true - we must do it again sometime when we give ourselves more time. I would really like to visit the Kauri Museum as well.

@dkbarnett the one in Kaitaita it has an amazing set of stairs inside a kauri tree

@dawnee I have seen that one - but the one I am talking about is at Matakohe. I have heard that it is pretty amazing and worth going to see.
