There was a lot of logging done in Stewart Island in the early days, including here at Sawdust Bay. No surprises as to where it got its name. You can still see the rimu logs and planks on the sand.
@littleconnie Thanks Connie, the sand was nice and firm, so it probably wouldn't be so bad barefoot. It was the rainbow and the light on that piece of land that drew my eye. @777margo Thanks for commenting Margo. It must have been a busy place back in the day. Not so good for nature though. @eudora thanks Diane, I loved those bits too. The native timbers are obviously very resilient. @jgpittenger Thanks Jane, I really liked that hint of rainbow. @hrs Thanks Helen - I really enjoyed my trip down there. @robz Yes a really long time. I think logging was happening on Stewart Island at various places between 1826 and 1930. @happypat Thanks - I did love that touch of sun on that bit of land. @dkay Thank you :-) @fbailey Thanks - just a touch but I liked it too.
