131 J for Jazz

This was easy: J stands definitely for Jazz and Jazz stands for John Coltrane. A love supreme
Superb, I find this quite compelling

@graemestevens thank you, I think this specific recording by mr. Coltrane is one of the most important in music. Worldwide and anytime

Nice one - my daughter just got her first record player and bought her first record this week - until that arrived she had to settle for my fathers old records, mostly piano jazz (Peterson, Garner, Tatum).
She chose the albums based on the covers ... and listened to some music that was totally new to her.

@vignouse thank you Richard. I recently had my turntable and phono preamp repaired and couldn't wait to celebrate it!!

@kerosene Curious enough, my hi-fi pusher told me that the most important hi-fi fair in Europe displayed many many more turntables than CD players

@kerosene oops.. And thank you, of course!!!

now my eardrums hurt... lol!

@kali66 It's moving that you took the time to listen to the whole album. I know, it's not Mr. Coltrane's easiest one and the live version is tough even for those that listen to him all the time :-)
June 1st, 2016
@kali66 But it is greatest music, indeed... If you ever wished to listen to something more "comfortable" also for your hurting eardrums, try "My favorite things" (from the original album not one of the zillions of live version... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWG2dsXV5HI)

i always look up music people i like recommend, you can learn a lot about them by what they like! i will listen to these ones later and let you know
June 1st, 2016
I look forward to hearing your thoughts :-)

my thoughts are... this is very abstract music, i dont particularly like favorite things just becasue i cannot help having julie andrews in my head and that doesnt go together with his style. at times it is like he whispers in your ear ... with a sax! .. that is no mean feat, but in general i find saxaphone hard to listen to, so i have to admit it will never be my favourite music style. i can appreciate the virtuosity though. My grandfather was a saxophone player, he was quite shy once he lost his teeth and breath so i didnt hear him often, but he was in bands when he was younger, i have photos of him looking suave.

on an entirely different note, we find ourselves in need of new members for the 5+@ self portrait group and wonder if you would be interested in taking up a weekly spot, either wednesday or sunday....we all enjoy your work very much :)
June 6th, 2016
@kali66 as to music: The fact is, I used to play saxophone and probably Mr. Coltrane's is music beloved by musicians in general and by saxophonists in particular. You're right, it is abstract, but when you start being comfortable with its abstraction, all the rest is something already heard...
As to being admitted in the 5+@ group... oh my, thank you I am honored (and it's not a cliché)! I accept wholeheartedly!
June 6th, 2016
yay!!! we are going through a big revamp so you can be part of the rebranding too, i will set you up with admission to the inner sanctum in due course

I see! And one of the all time great albums, too -- it's like a religious experience for me. Very nice photo.
