I like it soft too but it seems unlikely that the Summar 50mm produced a soft image, so does it come from the scan?

Thank you Richard. No, don't think it's a matter of scanning. The fact is, I was shooting wide open indoor with low light; very likely I just didn't focus with sufficient care!
