Some days ago they opened the infamous "San Giovanni" stop of the third subway line in Rome. I understood why it took so long by walking in: a museum visit for the price of a ride ticket.
Another great performance of the Spotmatic with the Takumar 50 f:1,4 @pickerandagrinner
fairly better on black
@kali66 thank you, Kali! @caterina thank you, Caterina! @joysabin surprisintg performance of the lens! @golftragic and do you believe, they displayed only a part of the things they found while digging the subway’s tunnels and station!
@domenicododaro Gosh, I guess with Rome's history there's a heck of a lot of ancient artefacts underground. There's a new railway tunnel being bored under Melbourne currently and there are archaeologists sifting through the soil there to see what they can find. Unless it's aboriginal, any artefacts won't be as old as those under Rome, of course.
@golftragic they did a very cool work at this subway station, not only a display of artifacts, but also a “stratigraphy”: a graphic description of the various ages and what you would find digging at the different depths
@domenicododaro Oh wow, that would be very interesting information with all sorts of possibilities for its use. My granddaughter, who is a first-year at Melbourne University, is one of a number of students employed at the dig/tunnel to do the grunt work for the specialists.
These throb on black! I salute the innovative thinking of a museum in the subway. Could one possibly see all Rome has to offer before 'See Rome and die' becomes a reality?
@s4sayer Thanks a lot, Margo! The answer is no: I have been living here for 34 years now and still there are streets in the center of the city I never walked!
So much history in Rome, love it. The subways in Athens are similar with displaying all the many discoveries. Near the acropolis station, they uncovered an entire neighborhood and have it on display near the acropolis museum below the current street level.
@blueberry1222 Thank you very much, Krista. Yes, I think archeology treasures should not be the excuse not to do this kind of works, but this kind of works should be seen as an opportunity !to display archeology treasures!
