Consuelo

Visited with Louis @walrus the majestic mansion built by one of the Vanderbilt tycoons in Newport: marble, marble and more marble. Guess: the call it the Marble House (some facts here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marble_House ). Many magnificent objects, I dare say maybe a bit magniloquent.
As I use to swim stubbornly upstream, what catched my eye was this rather modest photo of Consuelo Vanderbilt (the daughter of the prominent Alva, who had received the mansion as a little present for her 39th birthday). I liked the seemingly mundane setting and the melancholic smile of the soon to be Duchess of Marlborough.
Lovely

Oh my, those Vanderbilt's, they knew how to build grand homes for sure. This is a lovely vignette.

I like the sense of history this conveys, and the elegant simplicity -- especially knowing it's sitting in quite a mansion.

A beautiful still life and what a 39th birthday that must have been!
