2015 August 14: In the late night/early morning hours for the past several nights my sons and I have set up in the darkest spot that we could find in our yard and gazed above the treetops toward the northeast sky in order to watch for meteors from the annual Perseid meteor shower.
A couple of nights ago was our best viewing: On that night we were thrilled to see 25 meteors during our two hours of watching -- these were of varying brightness and duration, of course. Last night we only saw a few meteors; tonight has ended up being cloudy in our area.
There is a lot of light pollution in our neighborhood, so we were not able to get the fantastic photos of those way out in the darkness of the country. However, we had a wonderful time talking, looking at the stars, listening to nearby owls, and taking photos.
