2015 October 14: My neighbors' cotton fields are ready for harvest ...a certain sign that autumn has arrived and the holidays will soon be upon us.
I enjoy seeing cotton in all stages of its growth, from its beautiful blooms to the strikingly snow-white bolls. Indeed, because this area rarely has conditions that are suitable for snow, cotton is jokingly called "Southern Snow"!
I also enjoy seeing this particular field changing through the seasons ...It was featured in my January 29, 2015 Photo-of-the-Day while it was in its bare winter-rest stage. Soon it will be a buzz of activity as the cotton is harvested and baled, and then the steady rhythm of the cycle will begin again.
Lovely picture. I have never seen a cotton field before - it does look very curious. I enjoy watching the seasons change too and have found that one of the benefits of this project is that it has made me notice the cycles in nature more and the different beauty of each season.
I have never seen a cotton field in bloom or ready for harvest except on TV or someone else's photos here on 365. I'm looking forward to the harvest shot! This is very pretty.
