2018.04.21 Saturday: Today Scott, Matthew, and I attended "Paddle the Canal" at Big Spring Park. This was the first time that I have ever been in a canoe. The event was attended by several hundred people, but we went at lunchtime so the lines wouldn't be long.
Our first time through Matthew paddled a kayak, while Scott and I paddled (here I use the term quite loosely -haha) a canoe. Matthew did quite well, as he has been paddling for years. Scott and I, however, managed to hit at least one of every type of obstacle: other canoes, kayaks, the wall of the canal ...We even managed to run into one of the fountains! Fortunately for us, most of the other canoe paddlers were doing the same.
My second time through Matthew paddled with me. His years of paddling Concrete Canoe paid off: Matthew managed to maintain complete control of the canoe despite my fumbling attempts to help and despite other paddlers running into our canoe, and even gave me some tips on holding and using the paddle.
When we finished, Matthew joked that this event should have been named "Bumper Canoes!" It was a beautiful day, and a fun event!
