Snail shells

We went back to Cliveden today. I saw these on the plinth of a statue. They're a bit of a puzzle because the shells were empty but intact. I would have thought that if they'd been eaten by a bird, the shells would have been smashed. Another photo with unexpected flies! :-)
What pretty shells with such different patterns!

Perhaps someone had been having a snack? Some of them look like the ones that are edible to humans. Lovely colours.

@natsnell Lol! It brought some mates along with it today. You can't see them in this format but there's a couple more hanging around in the shells.
