Mountains in Africa, on the way home. by eleanor

Mountains in Africa, on the way home.

I grew up on a Karoo sheep farm about 40 miles down this dirt road, at the western end of the Nuweveld mountain range. My parents retired and sold the farm in the mid '90s and I've only driven this road once since then. Mom and I always thought that, from this point, the mountains looked like a pride of lions lying down. Dad and my sister never quite got it! My family indulged my need for a short detour to take this picture when we were driving up the national road at the start of our holiday. You can see that the picture has been taken in winter because the sky is a thin, pale blue.

All that's changed since my childhood is the green water tank at the house on the left; and the game fence on the right. South African National Parks (SANParks) have been buying up large tracts of the Karoo to create a mega national park. All the farms on the right-hand side of the road up to the mountains have been purchased by SANParks to be added to the Karoo Park in time.
Horizon... Very nice!

I can see your "lions" on the right, not so much to the left. Maybe I have to go there and see myself ;--)
