Urban decay

Urban decay is not just about the visible signs of deterioration. It's also about the loss of unique small businesses that serve a community. Rosmead Supermarket closed a year ago, unable to attract customers in the face of the Super Spar's extensions the previous year. Rosmead Supermarket was owned by, and run for, the Muslim community. Gorgeous fragrant food, unusual (for me) publications and the very best bread in town.

They lost the battle to a modern, efficient and very well run operation. As a customer, I am pleased to have the Spar's efficiency, but I do miss the variety that Rosmead offered. The building has been empty for a year now, and the sign is starting to fall down. The visible signs of decay are with us every day.
Sad, but true, in all communities.

Yes, very true. The super size stores are wonderful and convenient...yet I do feel the small personal connection might be lost as well. Good pic.

I agree. When a shop like that closes down it doesn't help the community either.

And so often we don't even realize what we lost. But I guess we also further it by going to the big markets and national chains and then wondering why the local stores can't keep up.

Another sad case of loosing the personal touch in this world. Everyone is out to make money.

No way, this is withing walking distance of my house!!

I never went to Rosmead Supermarket because I thought it would be really shoddy compared to Spar... I regret it now :(
