Two pounds.

This was produced in 2009 to celebrate the birth of Robert Burns (1759 - 1796). £2 coins are now fairly common but I'd not seen this design until today. 2.8 cms diameter. The £2 coins were first issued as a circulating coins in 1998 - more information about the £2 here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_pounds_(British_coin)
This is a beautiful coin....and just so interesting for me to see! Wonderful idea for a picture!

@mrssmith The blog will have a story to go with it and the words of the song.... it is a very shiny coin but looks dull here.

Lovely coin....love the inscription. Small size...larger than our quarter - 25 cent piece - but worth a whole lot more! Have these coins only been around for a couple of years?

I learned that song in 6th or 7th grade in my English classes in Germany. We were sooo proud that we were advanced enough to sing those "difficult" words at the time. And now, I speak more English than German...

What a lovely little work of art! This would be a coin that would make it's way through the years and be a treasure someday in someone's coin collection...

Hi Elizabeth! I was just looking at this coin again & noticed that kindness is spelt "kindnefs".
I used to be a calligrapher, & transcribe old documents.
The "s" used to be written as "f" back in those days.
Once you get the hang of it, it is quite easy to read.
"O" used to be written as "e" too.
It is quite interesting, when you get into the old language :)

Hope I haven't gone on too much.
