This is one of my memories of Belfast as a child, but with little trails of grey smoke coming out of every chimney

This is an amazing picture. I've never seen a picture of Belfast before and It looks very different from anything I've imagined. I've always wanted to go there because it is where my father's people imigrated from. The mountain in the background is beautiful. I never dreamed there would be so many rooftops and chimneys just alike.

What a great shot Elizabeth. Love the rooftops and chimneys with the countryside beyond. Shame about that white circular thing..what is that development?

@Cherrill The white circular thing is an amazing installation called "RISE" ... a symbol of hope, sunrise over the city, new beginnings for Belfast ... it was completed last year (2011) and can be see for miles around .... I love it!!!! http://therevandadog.blogspot.com/2011_05_10_archive.html http://365project.org/elizabeth/365/2011-06-23
This one has Eliot as well: http://365project.org/elizabeth/eliot/2011-09-24
RISE stands in the middle of one of the busiest roundabouts in the city. It is a sphere within a sphere. Designed by Northern Ireland artist and built by local construction workers. Known as "The Balls on the Falls" .... The Falls being the name for one of the districts that radiates out from the roundabout.

@elizabeth Oh sorry, no offence meant....I iwll have alook at your other pictures.

@Cherrill No problem!!!! There are plenty of folk in Belfast who don't like it!!!! I have a funny taste in art ... and weird/unusual tend to attract my attention!!!

This is a fascinating shot because of the contrast between the chimneys and roofs, RISE, and the mountain. Nice shot!

Great view! Wow! It' such a vast and beautiful world.

Wow! talk a bout a picture with many elements. Old, new, lines, textures. Typical image, in my mind, of the industrial revolution, row houses and the chimneys. Lacks the aerials on the roofs (Fahrenheit 451, the movie)

That is an awesome view, and how fascinating to see all those rooftops and chimneys

what a cool shot and a scenic type view of the roofs.

A great picture; the symmetry of the chimney pots grabbed me first but there's so much more to see. Is this part of your parish?
January 19th, 2012
@andym It is adjacent to my parish ... but the housing type is the same ... much built at the end of the nineteenth century for the new industries in Belfast and the coming of the railway. Small houses in terraces .... I'll take a few shots around the parish over the next while ....
