Haunted?

178 / 365
I have always lived in this neighborhood and never liked this gnarly tree. Always thought it was so ugly. It actually looks kind of pretty right now with the spring foliage. When I was a kid I used to walk by and think it was so fitting to have this scary tree in a cemetary and pondered as to if that was the intent when it was planted. (Actually, I would walk very briskly by. ;)) Anyway, the funeral home just down the street has the same trees..Coincidence? - I think not..

Interesting tree. It does look kind of creepy, especially with the cloudy sky. Great capture.

I love those trees...especially the one at the funeral parlor in the winter when the leaves drop and they wrap lights arounfd all of the branches and the trunk...I think I like the wet street in the foreground

I like those trees too- esp around Halloween.

This tree is beautiful ... love it with the foliage hanging down. But I agree with you, Elizabeth. As a child we see these in a different way and I've done the same. Some trees are just amazingly beautiful and some have a different kind of aura.

Trees have so much character, spring ones are the best. Nice capture

As a child i would probably have been afraid of this tree... but now I think it is gorgeous... and I would probably love it even more in the winter when it is just branches... perfect silhouette tree! :) I love the reflections on the wet street!

This tree definitely looks like it has a presence or a few. I think it's great you've lived in the same neighborhood. So unusual today.

I think it's time to change your opinion about this tree now when you are big. I think it's graceful. :)

@anndee Thanks! South Portland is a lovely little city and a lot of people who grow up here stay here. My mother and grandparents lived here as well.

There seems to be a ghostly mist in the midst of the branches, so yep, it's haunted for sure.

Like the slight reflection on the wet road!

I disagree. I think it looks spectacular...even if it is also chosen for the funeral home up the road ! 'What came first... the funeral home or the tree?' is a bit like the chicken or the egg question!

It is what I as a child would think too - frondy hands reaching down for you! But now I think it is beautiful. Imagine blue sky behind it!
