From Alice Springs head west for 130 kms following the line of the MacDonnell Ranges.
It is all wonderful scenery full of geological oddities, like an ochre mine, and plateau scenery. Finally reaching Glen Helen, a settlement with a shop and somewhere to stay. We opted to go no further as the road had been washed away in recent floods (well, fairly recent - 1970s), but we stopped long enough to visit the pool and gorge.
I camped at Glen Helen Gorge in 2003 when spending a year n Australia. Went for a helicopter flight. I enjoyed the west Macdonnel range more than Ularu to be honest. Happy memories
