No I did not forget to Rotate this Picture!!lol...I had fun watching this Beauty hanging upside down eating berries off the vine..I caught One of the berries right smack in front of his eye and did not notice it untill i brought it up on the screen! I Liked it!! .. He reminded me of a Pirate so that is why i renamed him!! I still dont understand why they named this bird the red bellied woodpecker ..when clearly he has a red head!! ..Someone must have needed glasses!!! Best Viewed Large!! :)
Thank you all for your visits, comments and fav's, I look foward to reading them each day! I am working hard to get back on a "normal sleep schedual" so i might be off and on for the next few day's..i will catch up with yall soon.. i promise! :) xxoo
Ha! Awesome. I totally get the pirate change, it's clearly ridiculous to reference his belly anything but yellow, but I think there is some connotation to cowardess in a yellow belly, and again, pirates are hardly cowards, and this one is obviously not even afraid of gravity, so... "captain golden vest" is off the hook name wise.
There is a specially named red headed woodpecker, that looks like it is wearing a wig of red. It is totally awesome. We have 8 different woodpeckers in our area. It is hard keeping them all straight, and hard to catch them upside down. Fun!
A beautiful capture, Ellen. Because we don't have woodpeckers in our country, I googled this one and apparently they have a faint reddish tinge on their lower bellies that is hard to see unless you view them up close and personal. There are some photos on google images showing the red feathers. I agree that the head feathers are so prominent that the name is a bit misleading!
@girlie Thank you so Much Ruth!! i did have a friend tell me that once and i was trying so hard to find it while i was posting this pick ,,but it must be really low on the belly for me to have missed it!! Thank you so much for your great comments and fav's...i am so glad i found you ! :)
This is beautiful. I love all the green and the colors of nature you have in your project. Absolutely beautiful. I might have missed it but although I have seen your moon shots, I haven't seen any stars. Either star shots or trails. So if you are up for it, that would be my challenge to you. How about it?
What a great shot, Ellen. I love it. FAV I am trying to get on a better sleep schedule also but have been hooked on here till oops it is time to sleep, a little after midnight.

@catsmeowb Oh my yes they are Camille! And i was shocked to still see so many birds around ! It is so cold here now! Thank you for your great comment! :)
I had never heard of this one - fantastic find. Your shot is tremendous - such wonderful detail. His markings on really outstanding, aren't they. Really glad you posted this one.
Beautiful! I love the black and white pattern of his feathers.
When I saw this in thumbnail, my first thought was 'Someone posted a pic of a dead bird?'
I mean, if a bird is belly-up, it's usually dead, right? LOL
So glad that this gorgeous little birdy is happy and healthy...and upside down. ;-)
