I asked this gentleman for a photo and we spoke briefly about his work. He was repairing his 70 year old boat because it had been leaking. He told me that he had an even older boat built in 1901. It is unfortunate he told me that we are not building this type of boat any more. Fibre glass has taken over and what is worse he concluded is that owners like him are not finding craftsmen who can mend such boats.
Today's 4km walk took me down to Marsaxlokk, a small fishing village to the south east of the island. There was a lot of orange to capture as it seems to be the primer used as an undercoat to the distinctive colours used on the Marsaxlokk boats. Here is today's last orange.
