13th July 2014

Today it was the fifth Hanworth Car Rally at Bushy Park, an event organised in conjunction with the Kingston based dance club ‘Everything’s Jumpin’. The event is held to raise money for Shooting Star Chase, a charity for two local children’s hospices.

It is a fantastic event with rows and rows of vintage and customised cars and in the midst of it an open sided marquee with dance floor. The dancers are so accomplished and dance to mainly 1940s and 1950s music. Their rhythm is amazing and I feel bad that every year Collin wistfully suggests we could go to one of their classes. Sadly I have to refuse as I am seriously the most clumsy person and do not have natural rhythm... he watches on!

This is our friend and neighbour Nick with Maisy the dog. Maisy is much loved and sometimes has to be persuaded to go for a walk. Nick gave in and popped her in the bike basket in order to get to the rally before it finished for the day.

I took a lot of photographs and I let Shooting Star Chase and the sponsors of the show use them which will hopefully help to promote future events which in turn will raise more money for the charity. The person who organises the event told me that in this single day, more money was raised than in a months worth of fund raising.

Here are a small selection from the day - https://www.flickr.com/photos/emmadurnford/sets/72157645299931719/
For some reason the combination of his smile, his teeshirt, and the dog in the bike basket made me smile as soon as I saw this picture. Fav for me. I hope you raise major funds for he hospitals.

Great picture of man and dog, and the event sounds wonderful--glad it raised so much money, and I'm sure that future ones will raise even more, helped by your photographs Emma. I enjoyed the other captures too. It must have been great to watch the dancing to 40s and 50s music. I am a complete non-dancer but I can enjoy watching it.
