17th January 2015

This is amazing. There is currently a Grey seal swimming in the River Thames ABOVE the lock and so therefore in the non-tidal freshwater part of the river!

I was tipped off that he/she was there by a 'tweet' and although it was getting dark I headed off towards Teddington lock not really expecting to see anything. I was amazed to find this chap (I've decided he looks manly) happily swimming up and down in front of the weir and lock. I watched him until it got so dark he was difficult to see.
Wonderful capture.

@creampuff how many times has @Padlock watched you taking a dip? Time to improve your security!!

@tristansmum The Lock keepers and zoological society aren't worried and think he or she will return to the estuary in its own time, hopefully.
