Today is the Alternative Boat Race organised by the RNLI. As it is the Oxford and Cambridge boat race tomorrow, the RNLI are fundraising by racing 250 model lifeboats from Barnes Bridge to Chiswick Bridge - each boat is sponsored and first across the line wins a chance to name a D class lifeboat later in the year. This is the moment that the boats were released from the pontoon. I followed the boats to the finish line and the first across was the ‘John Hicks’.
