22nd May 2015

This is the front of our friends car. It is obviously a Mercedes and I am ashamed to say was quite dirty so I had to do a lot of cloning to clean it up!

The reason I have posted this is that I have just found out that I have won another photography competition. This time it was run by Avis car hire and I had to submit just one photograph of a favourite road we have driven along with a description of why we liked it. I entered a photograph of the SH80 on South Island in New Zealand that leads to Mount Cook Village.

I received an email to say that out of 600 entries I had won the competition. Colin and I get to go to Portugal for 7-nights and a stipulation of the prize is that we have to drive what has been nominated the worlds best driving road - the N222 near Porto - in a high performance Mercedes Benz!!! It all be a hard job but someone has got to do it. When the marketing person heard that I am also a photographer he suggested that they may also want to use some of my photos so if they do it will also be good exposure.

The downside of this prize is that it will ruin my rather futile attempt to lose some weight before we go away on a trip that we have actually organised and paid for later in the year… not that I am that disappointed!

Here is a link to my photograph and the narrative that I put with it on my FaceBook page - https://www.facebook.com/186301661422523/photos/a.190144021038287.67466.186301661422523/936734063045942/?type=1&theater
Wow Emma, congratulations are again in order--and, I might add, totally deserved. I say that after looking at the winning shot and reading your narrative. What you say about the clear air and the apparent nearness of the mountains reminds me of descriptions I have read in some of the novels of the late Ngaio Marsh, who was from NZ and whose mystery novels are among my favourites. Your winning photograph is completely stunning. Glad you are being brave :)--yes, it's a hard job, but someone has to do it, glad it's you!

@tristansmum Thank you! Avis are not being incredibly efficient but I hope that we will be away from the 11-18th of July - will let you know.
