A shock today - the house at the end of Watts Lane caught fire and there was a 4-appliance call-out. Luckily the couple were not in the house at the time but the only reason the fire brigade turned up at all was because our friends in Apollo garage called them. The smell of smoke lingered all day in the area and i feel so sorry for the owners.
Apparently the cause of the fire was a tumble dryer. What was particularly scary was that the machine had been turned off and UNPLUGGED when the owners went out. The firemen said it was ‘latent heat’ which caused it to catch fire. Made us think, if we turn off the dryer in mid cycle we’ll be sure to take all the clothes out to be on the safe side.
