Woo-hoo, first day in New York, we didn't get lost on the Metro and we haven't been mugged… yet!

In usual Durnford fashion we walked most of Downtown Manhattan and over into Brooklyn. We took the Statten Island ferry for free there and back and got great views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty on the way back. We stopped for coffee, Colin fist-bumped the barista (fitting in you see!) and then we headed under the river to Brooklyn and walked around DUMBO for great views of Brooklyn Bridge. We then stopped for pizza before heading up and over the bridge back to Manhattan. It really is an amazing structure and was only completed as the wife of the architect John Robbling (who was injured during the build) - Emily Warren - spent over 10 years managing the project and commuting back and forth to builders on the bridge passing on information.

Then onto the World Trade Centre and Ground Zero… all by foot. We finished off with a walk to Wall Street, back to One World Trade Centre and dinner in an excellent food court - Hudson Bay. We were flaked out by the time we got back and slept very well!

20,914 steps today - a record!
Welcome to NY. Glad you are enjoying our city!

@rachealspictures Thank you - it really is amazing as we've seen it so often in films and now we're here - what a city. We spent 4.5 hours at the 9/11 museum today which is superb. We have plans to visit the High Line, Grand Central, Central Park and the other usual sites - we can't not - can we?!
