24th October 2017

As it is our last full day in Sydney before we head into the Blue Mountains tomorrow, we simply had to visit Bondi Beach. The journey there was just as impressive. We caught one of the ferries from Circular Quay along the coast to Watson's Bay, walked up the Hill and then waited in the shade for the bus which would take us further along the coast to Bondi beach.

The views from Watson's Bay over the park back towards the city were really impressive but nothing quite prepared us for the large number of budgie smugglers on the beach! I thought it was a bit of an urban myth, but no, nearly every guy regardless of age or physique was wearing budgie smugglers - not always a good sight.

We enjoyed a non alcoholic passionfruit cocktail at one of the beach bars before heading off on a coastal walk from Bondi all the way the Coogee. It is quite a distance with a lot of up and downs and in the heat from the sun it was hard work. We also had not known that is was the annual beach sculpture exhibition so it was fascinating to see all the modern art along the way.

We did start to flag a little but were revived by the signs of 3 hump back whales far in the distance putting on an amazing display of breaching and very loud tail slapping. A brief lunch stop and then we continued on our way and eventually achieved our goal of reaching Coogee beach where we celebrated by sharing an expensive ice cream in the pavilion. We took a different route back this time with a bus to Bondi junction where we almost forgot to tap out with our Opal cards and then onto a train to the City Hall and then another train to Circular Quay. Quite a journey but a real achievement for the day.

After a rest I managed the catch the 'blue hour' this time and take some far better photographs from the roof of our hotel. Afterwards we were so shattered that we ate in the hotel again - excellent Caesar salad.
