Ooh, I'm getting ready for our trip to Finland in February. On the 7th of February I have a '0' birthday and as a clue it is not my 40th or 60th!!
I am not feeling positive about the landmark birthday and I hate surprise parties that are for me so instead we are going somewhere that I have always want to go to - Lapland in the Arctic Circle... in Finland.
I am very excited. We are staying for 4-nights in a place called Ylläs far North of the Arctic Circle. I have organised trips husky sledging, snow-mobiling and visiting a reindeer farm. This is all good but actually need a lot of preparation as the temperature will be very low. We have most of the kit we need having bought it for trips to Greenland over 10 years ago and more recently the Andes in Bolivia in 2015. However, there was no snow in these places so snow boots are essential. These are my new boots and teamed with long thermal socks I am going to be toasty... I hope.
It was rather a long drive in heavy rain to Sevenoaks to visit a specialist ski shop but it was well worth it and we had a nice lunch at Silvermere golf club on the way back!
