27th July 2018

For the past two months we have had pretty much solid sunshine and high temperatures. Everywhere in the country needs rain as the grass has dried and died. For the past few days there has been a lot of publicity about the amazing complete lunar eclipse that will occur tonight at 8.50pm.

Today for the first time there was thick cloud later in the afternoon and then rain! I had scoped the best place to photograph the clips and decided it would be best viewed from Bushy Park as it is easier to see the horizon. I used ‘The Photographers Ephemera’ app to place the Diana Fountain in the perfect place. We arrived at 8.45 and there were a few other photographers with tripods set up.

From this point everything went downhill. The cloud remained thick and there was not a single glimpse of the moon and I was badly bitten by midges as I had forgotten to put any insect repellent on. This is the shot minus the moon - it would have been stunning on a clear night with the eclipsing moon!!
