Today we decided to head back to Calella de Palafrugell the first place we ever went on holiday together back in 1999. I set the Satnav and managed to find the same hotel and we were able to drive straight there. The hotel has been done up quite a but the little pond and the terrapins were still there and I guess some of them could in fact be the same ones as I think they have quite a long lifespan.

After touring the hotel we walked to the old town and had an ice cream (Dulce de Leche and coconut!) as storm clouds began to gather over the sea and we could hear distant rumbles of thunder. I had wanted to walk to the little town of Llafranc which we did last time over the headland but we decided to drive as the sky was getting blacker and blacker. Rather lucky that we did because literally a minute after we had parked in Llafranc and I was about to get a parking ticket the heavens opened!

The rain started slowly with large drops which increased quickly so in a short space of time it was literally hammering down. I’ve never seen anything like it. The roads became flooded within just a few minutes and we were driving through water up to the wheel arches. At first it was fascinating but we swiftly became quite worried as we couldn’t see the edges of the road, manhole covers lifted out of place and hilly roads became fast flowing rivers of muddy water.

We finally made it back to the villa but it was raining so hard with thunder and lightning that we had to stay in the car for more than half an hour as the water was so high. Eventually we made a dash for it and reached the safety of the villa! Everyone was at home and we were really relieved to be safe. The rain continued for another hour or so and was so hard that the pool became a free-flow pool!
Nice composition. I like the spot of yellow
