14th September 2018

Despite a number of lie-ins which have been great, this morning I crept out for my first run in a location other than Bushy Park. I had planned a route of almost 5kms running from the villa down to the beach and along the headland. It is a steep gradient downhill and I managed to keep running until the bottom gaining a new PB for a mile. It was already getting hot but it was lovely to run along the beach even though I hadn’t realised that there were steps around the coast and small land slips from yesterday’s storm. I made it back in about 34 minutes which considering I had to walk most of the way back up the hill was not bad for 4.8kms.

I spent a lot of the morning recovering before we headed out to explore the little town of Begur. Strangely the car was covered in ants walking in a line across the passengers side... this has significance for later events but seemed unimportant at the time! It was very peaceful on our walk up to the mirador and castle but we discovered the bustling town square on our way down. It’s a great little town but I’m glad we are staying closer to the sea.

Afterward we continued towards a little town that sounds rather like a stomach complaint - Peratallada We found the last parking bay in the car park and realised that the other car occupants were all rather smartly dressed as we had yet again stumbled onto a wedding. The photographer (fellow Canon used) was from the UK and told us it was a German couple getting married. The bride who arrived with her father in a vintage Mercedes looked stunning.

The little town we had actually come to visit was so old with some houses having carved stones with dates in the 1600’s. We managed another ice cream before we explored a bit more and headed back to the car park just in time to see the wedding party coming out of the church and the confetti being thrown.

We stopped at a supermarket in Pals on the way back for supplies and I bought some nougat and a tin of paprika. We packed and finished up the remains of food in the fridge for dinner whilst watching the geckos catch moths by the lights.
