Our last full day in Berlin and despite a lie in we still managed a full day. First I tried to find what is supposed to be Berlins most beautiful square but unfortunately a Christmas market is being built in the middle so it was difficult to see the full effect. Then back to Checkpoint Charlie to look at the open air museum. We also had a closer look at the Jewish holocaust memorial. As this is Colin’s birthday present he got to choose activities so we got a metro to the outskirts of the city to Wansee lake and then a bus to the villa where the Nazis developed ‘The Final Solution’... hard to read about but having visited Auschwitz in Poland, we’ve come somewhat the full circle.

Back to Berlins largest and Europe’s second largest (behind Harrods) department store - KaWeDa! What a place, on a par with El Cortes Ingles in Spain. We wanted to see the food halls on the sixth floor in particular. They were vast with not only various counters of sweets, chocolates, cheeses, meats and delis but also small restaurants and champagne bars. Despite all this choice we only made one purchase for our neighbour who is hamster sitting (we managed some free cheese samples though).

Last stop back to the Jewish memorial but unfortunately it was not floodlit as we had expected. The Brandenburg Gate was though and it actually looked more impressive in the dark. We walked back to our hotel and rested up before our last meal out . Great place, good beer and food!
