5th February 2020

Our first full day in Malaga and straight away I realised how well situated our apartment is - just 7 minutes walk from the historic centre with its Roman theatre and Alcazaba (I thought it should be Alcazar but it’s not!). Although it was warm it was not quite as hot as I had expected but in light of the amount of sight seeing we had planned that was probably a good thing - in fact was actually a bit misty first thing. We bought joint tickets for the Alcazabar and the Gibralfaro. It was a lovely morning and the sun came out onto the water gardens. By the time we had finished it was time for lunch… we looked at various places and then found an excellent tapas bar away from the main drag and enjoyed fresh tapas from the bar with a beer.

In the afternoon we walked the steep climb up to the Castillo Gibralfaro and on route saw this lovely red squirrel which Colin attempted to feed with Dextrasol tablet which he was not impressed with (the squirrel not Colin!). The views were amazing from the top with our cafe con leche.

We cheated and got the bus back down as it had been quite a climb up. We got off by the bull ring and had a brief look at a photography exhibition of flamenco dancers. We had found a seafood restaurant down in the harbour area and walked there in the early evening but sadly it appeared to be shut for the season.

We walked back to the apartment and were so tired later in the evening that we decided to return to the excellent tapas place we visited last night. Another great meal and this time the owner offered us complimentary drinks to finish up with - a good end to a great day.

Positive - A lovely day in the sun
