24th December 2020

Day 281 since the start of the 1st lock down.

Christmas Eve.

Today was just the right weather for Christmas Eve - cold and bright sun. We walked into Bushy Park taking some bird seed and I also took my big 70-200mm f/2.8 lens to see if we could spot the kingfishers again. Amazingly we found them or at least one again in the pace we’d visited before. I used my bird app and we got a great new albeit from a distance and I did manage a ‘radish shot’ of him/her when it landed briefly on the wooden bridge in the Woodland Garden. Afterwards we discovered the Egyptian goose with eleven goslings in the Pheasantry. I couldn’t believe it - it is so early and they are so small. I really hope they all survive not only the winter but also the hungry crows, herons and foxes in the area.

We headed home and had out traditional salmon and prawns for dinner. Colin made a brilliant hot lemon and thyme sauce for the salmon and it really elevated it to ‘dinner party’ level! We watched the 25th anniversary production of Phantom of the opera on Sky Arts and Father Christmas delivered a large oak fo Colin and a large pile of presents for me before we went to bed!

The last news of the day is that Boris Johnson has managed to form an agreement with Europe for when we finally leave on the 31st of January. Not quite his brilliant ‘oven ready’ deal we were promised last December and nothing in comparison to what we have enjoyed for the past forty years plus with Europe but better than nothing. I am so very angry about all of this still and find it difficult to be in the same room as those who voted leave! Our country is the laughing stock of the world. We have the highest number of Covid19 deaths outside of the US and South America and we have over 1,000 lorries caught in huge jams unable to travel in or out of France from Kent. Anyone who thinks this is a success is barking mad… this is not very seasonal so I will sign off now!
