17th May 2021

1 year, 52 days since the start of the 1st lock down in March 2020

Today we decided to go for another mud larking session before our trip sown to Cornwall. Low tide was well timed but I decided on Hammersmith as a location this time as it was just a bit too early to head over to East London. I did not expect to find much as the location is not central but I was really pleased to find an old glass stopper from a Garton bottle which I can precisely date between 1896 and 1904 when the company was bought out and it was rebranded as HP sauce! I also found my first ever complete pipe bowl. Not that ornately decorated but it did have some leaves at the base so probably Victorian.

We were lucky that the heavy rain held off for most of our visit but it then developed into a heavy downpour so as the tide was turning and gradually covering the beach, we headed back to the steps we had first walked down from South Lion street. The 17th of May is the day that cafes and restaurants are finally allowed to have customers inside. We took advantage of this by enjoying a good coffee and even better almond croissant in the Elder Press cafe. It is a lovely venue and it was a real pleasure to sit inside and actually see other people.

A good day.
