9th October 2021

1 year, 191 days since the start of the 1st lock down in March 2020.

An early and foggy start but all exciting as we decided to fight to buy the little male hamster I had spotted at Squires but who was still in quarantine and which we could not put a deposit down on. We queued by the front door and I could see the girl and her father who we had been told were also coming for him. I was rather concerned as I had not actually seen the hamster very well but had liked his colouring.

The door finally opened at 9.00am and I went straight to the counter and bought him. I think the others were disappointed but as they seemed to have no idea of the sort or even gender of hamster they wanted, he is definitely better off with us. I finally got a closer look at him in his carry container rand he is so pretty - black and white with massive ears. Once in his cage he ran around exploring, spinning in his wheel and pouching his food. Basically that is the last we saw of him for some time!

We have called him Pingado after our trip to Portugal in September. Anyway, Pingado is a combination of two of our favourite things in Portugal - a type of fresh coffee with a little hot milk called a Pingado and our favourite Portuguese supermarket called Pingo Doce - he seems to suit his name - Pingo for short.

In the afternoon I did a bit of gardening to stop myself disturbing Pingado!
