On our second and last day in Bordeaux, we had decided to drive out of the city to explore the coast and Cape Ferret on the other side of Arcachon. We had read about the oyster beds and we headed right the way down the peninsula to a little place on the beac called Chai Bertrand. It was a lovely area, very quiet with a lighthouse, sand and pine trees. We found the restaurant right on the beach and amazingly got the very best of tables right next to the beach.

We ordered a glass of chilled rosé each to accompany massive langoustines to start and then a platter of 24 oysters on a bed of crushed ice. It was delicious. After some paté an more bread, we finally finished. We could easily have fallen asleep at this point so we decided to go for a paddle to see the oyster beds and also walk around to see the towering Arcachon sand dune, the other side of the peninsula, back on the mainland.

It was a lovely day, so different to being in the city. The journey home on the other hand was a total nightmare. Apparently according to the owner of our apartment, it was usual traffic but we drove (Colin back in the driving seat) from jam to jam, relying on the SatNav to try and get us out of it all. In the end we had to drive through the centre of Bordeaux, and despite almost being back, got stuck in the one way system and circuited where we were eating twice as the tram stops the easy turn into the apartment. We were shattered when we eventually arrived. It was a well earned glass of chilled cider when we finally got back!
