It definitely works Erika! Great colours and beautiful background. For me personally, the colours are a little too saturated, I'm a person who prefers natural-looking. But that's not to say they are bad, and the composition is lovely. I would perhaps experiment with DOF, depending how far away your background is, it might be nice to get a little more of the flowers and stalk in focus if you can still achieve a soft background? If that makes sense? What do you think?
It is all about personal taste, as long as you love it, it is good enough. That is where characters come from. I love the Yellow/Orange on top of the black.
@aliha Thank you, Alison. I really appreciate your comments. Like you, I usually prefer natural looking photographs. I was stepping out of my element on this one, just to try something different. I agree that the depth of field could be better.
@epcello I have to say I am no expert, I can only give you my own opinion! I am pretty new to macro-type photography myself - I've not had a reason to take shots like this before but they are great for 365 fillers … and being new to 2.8 lenses have gone straight for the narrow DOF! I think I am learning however that that isn't always the best option …
Its great to see you trying new ideas. I'm doing well to upload every second day! I'm staying simple as my main purpose for 365 is to record my year. I enjoy looking through my çamer 'eyes to see all the interesting things around me.
My first thought was, might be better with some more DOF......but actually looking at it some more, I really like th soft affect this DOF has given the overall visual.. And the black background really makes it pop out. Realy, really like this, FAV :)
I like this just the way you have done it because it is your photo and what you like not what you think others will like. Does that make sense? You could have used more dof and given more detail and clarity in the flowers and stems if you wanted to but that would give you a completely different feel to the image. Both would work fine. You have got the background and composition right so play around with the dof and details and see which you prefer. Fav
