passing the torch

This is a framed cross stitch that belongs to my boss. I have always thought this is the most hysterical thing, and it's so exactly perfect for my boss. It's so him. I remember when I first met him, I commented on it, how funny I found it... turns out my boss' wife made it for him some years ago. This is seriously my favorite thing in my boss' office.

I moved into an office of my own a couple of months ago, and my office is sparse. The building is out of art work, and in this economy they are not prioritizing buying more... so my walls are blank and white. SPARSE. EMPTY. BARE.

My boss is retiring at the end of the month, and I am crushed. I could have cried when I heard... I seriously love my boss. He's been wonderful. He showed up in my office today and gave me this cross stitch, along with a comment about "finally doing something to brighten up the place"... and it made my day.

Every time I've seen this in his office, it's made me smile.... and now it's in my office... to make me smile. I am so happy to have this, I can't even explain...
Aw, that's sweet.

Gosh, I kind of feel like crying after reading this! What a wonderful person your boss is.

@soybon @lisjam1 - Thanks! I still get teary when I look at it, and my boss isn't retiring until 01 March. My coworker and I are equally as crushed over our boss leaving us, and when he noticed this in my office, he exclaimed "Aaawww, you got the rate schedule??!! I wanted the rate schedule!", and we had a good laugh. He said he's going to go into our boss' office and start putting stickers on the rest of the stuff he wants. We need to laugh over it, because really, we both could cry at a moment's notice. There will be a big void when our boss retires.

@erikadee At least you can take some comfort in the fact that a man who you respect so much and has been a great boss finally gets to retire and relax!

@lisjam1 - You are so right, and that thought has often made me smile, too. He really deserves to relax and enjoy....
