I was on the ground to take this one. I was getting creeped out he might crawl on my hand!

What on earth is it? Looks a bit like a lobster, not a spider, not a weta, - great shot, Marybeth! Well spotted for a photo!

It's a Leaf footed bug.....has a proboscis or 'spear like" thing in it's face like an Assassin bug...

@lyno He was a BIT too close at times...I took this with my I p hone as I did not have my DSLR with zoom lens with me. My hand was a bit TOO close!

@michaelelliott Michael..I had to use my Iphone since I did not have my DSLR...but one benefit of that Iphone is that I can set it easily right on the ground to take the photo.... :0)

OK, this is the weirdest bug I've EVER seen and you were on the ground getting this great shot of it. They should put you in the bug hall of fame. Congrats on the PP.

I'm fascinated and grossed out at the same time. Not a fan of bugs but this one is really interesting! Great shot. Love the light and shadow contrast.

@alisonp thank you, Alison! It is on the fav if fav thread? I don't think I got a notification about that! Maybe they forgot to tag me in it....that is so cool! Thanks for letting me know! I was leaving work, and saw something moving on the sidewalk. I shoot lots of bug macros in warm weather so now I notice the little guys a lot. I reached for my camera bag to realize I did not have it. Tried my old little Canon Powershot 800 p and s but could not get a decent shot. Then realized I should try my iPhone...set it touching the ground and then as he kept walking towards me to find the grass and safety, I just kept trying to tilt the phone until I got the sun in there too. I was pretty happy with it for an iPhone shit, but am surprised it got in the pp. that was a nice surprise .
