My Favourite for 2016 by ethelperry

My Favourite for 2016

In September, I decided to join a challenge from @vignouse. Briefly, it was to shoot B&W, square format with prime lens equiv. to 50mm, and post SOOC for one month. My own added challenge was to do this sitting down, either in wheel chair or 4 wheel walker. This posed an interesting lot of manoeuvres as there was no zoom option.

My granddaughter took me to The National Gallery of Victoria where the curved water wall at entrance, is a magnet to visitors. The photo is more an emotive one, than a photographic masterpiece for me. The woman outside is my granddaughter and we had encountered this toddler in one of the lifts a short time before. His mother was loaded up with pusher and bags of accoutrements necessary to go out with a child that age. I admired her and reflected on how much the Gallery must mean to her.

Later, I was set up to try and capture some photos. There were two other photographers hard at work with impressive gear. It was a surprise when I spotted our little boy toddle over to the wall and my trigger finger reacted before his mother photo bombed the picture.I was moved by the symbolism of the hands: Laura outside smiling and greeting him, while he is tentative re touching the glass.

One day that little boy may be an artist, or art enthusiast with a camera. I am the reflective elder, Laura is immersed in art, and the tiny boy is the hope of the future.

My wish for the New Year is for joy in creativity, in spite of obstacles. My wish for my friends is that you enjoy the good, and fend off the bad as well as you can in 2017.
Great shot, Ethel. That's definitely a worthy one.
